Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC: G550 and AMG G63 Vehicles Recalled Due to Wiring Harness Damage

Summary

Mercedes-Benz is recalling approximately 26,116 of its 2019-2021 G550 and AMG G63 vehicles. A wiring harness in the front axle area can rub against an oil cooler, causing damage that leads to a failure of the anti-lock brakes (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC) systems. Mercedes-Benz dealers will inspect affected vehicles and either install a protective sleeve or replace the harness entirely at no cost to the owner.

Risk

If the wiring harness is damaged, the vehicle may lose its anti-lock braking and electronic stability control functions, which significantly increases the risk of a crash during braking or steering maneuvers. While the primary braking system will still function, the loss of these safety assist features makes the vehicle harder to control in emergency situations.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is a 2019-2021 Mercedes-Benz G550 or a 2019-2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG G63.
  2. Contact an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer to schedule a free inspection of your front axle wiring harness.
  3. If damage is found, the dealer will replace the wiring harness; if no damage is found, they will install a protective sleeve to prevent future issues, both free of charge.
  4. For more information, contact Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 and mention recall number 2023030005.
