Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

  • Account information: email address, name, and authentication provider (Google or magic link) when you create an account.
  • Newsletter subscriptions: email address and optional state preferences for our weekly digest.
  • Product monitoring data: product names, UPC codes, model numbers, and other identifiers you provide for recall monitoring.
  • Saved recalls: when you bookmark a recall, we store the association between your account and that recall so it appears on your dashboard.
  • Barcode scans: when you use the Check Your Home barcode scanner, the camera video stream is processed entirely in your browser using html5-qrcode. We do not upload, store, or transmit any images or video. Only the decoded barcode digits are sent to our servers to look up matching recalls. Camera access is requested only when you tap "Scan Barcode" and can be revoked at any time in your browser settings.
  • Search logs: search queries and filters used on the site, stored anonymously for improving search quality.
  • Usage data: pages visited, features used, and device/browser information collected via cookies and analytics.

How We Use Your Information

  • Product monitoring: checking your registered products against new recalls and sending alert emails when matches are found.
  • Weekly digest: sending personalized recall summaries based on your state preferences.
  • Account management: authentication, dashboard features, and account communications.
  • Site improvement: analyzing search patterns and usage to improve recall data quality and search relevance.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only with:

  • Resend: our email service provider, for delivering digest and alert emails.
  • Sentry: our error tracking service, which may receive anonymized technical data when errors occur.
  • Google AdSense: our advertising partner, which may use cookies and similar technologies to serve relevant ads. Google's use of advertising cookies is governed by their Privacy Policy.
  • Vercel Analytics & Speed Insights: our hosting provider's aggregated analytics services for measuring page views and site performance.
  • Law enforcement: if required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of our users.

Data Retention

Account data is retained while your account is active. When you unsubscribe from the newsletter, we keep your email on a suppression list (status "unsubscribed") so we don't accidentally email you again — that row is hard-deleted only when you delete your account. Search logs and aggregate analytics may be retained indefinitely; query strings are not tied to your account. You can delete your account and all associated data yourself at any time from Account Settings.

Your Rights

You can exercise the following rights yourself from Account Settings:

  • Export your data. Download a JSON file containing your account profile, monitored products, and newsletter subscription state.
  • Delete your account. Permanently removes your user record, all monitored products and saved recalls, sessions, OAuth credentials, newsletter subscription, and email send logs containing your address. The action is immediate and not reversible.
  • Unsubscribe from email. Use the one-click unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email, or change your subscription state from Account Settings.

If you can't access your account but still want to exercise these rights, email us at admin@gobacks.info and we'll help.

California residents (CCPA): You have the right to know what personal information we collect, request its deletion, and opt out of its sale (we do not sell personal information). To exercise these rights, contact us at admin@gobacks.info.

Cookies and Advertising

We use essential cookies for authentication and session management, and analytics cookies to understand site usage. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some features (notably login) may not work properly without them.

Go Backs is ad-supported. We use Google AdSense to serve ads on the site. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.

Opting out of personalized ads. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings. You can also opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info. Opting out doesn't remove ads — you may still see non-personalized ads that aren't based on your browsing history.

EU/UK visitors (GDPR). Personalized advertising cookies are non-essential and require your consent. If you're visiting from the EU or UK, you'll see a consent prompt before personalized ads are served, and you can withdraw consent at any time.
