Hyundai Motor America: 2021-2023 Palisade Vehicles Recalled for Windshield Wiper Failure

Summary

Hyundai Motor America is recalling approximately 167,085 of its 2021-2023 Palisade vehicles because the windshield wipers may stop working. The wiper motor can become intermittent or fail completely if snow or ice builds up on the windshield, which can happen during winter weather conditions. To fix this safety issue, Hyundai dealers will replace the driver-side windshield wiper arm with a new part at no cost to owners.

Risk

If the windshield wipers fail while driving, the driver's visibility will be significantly reduced, which increases the risk of a crash. This defect is specifically triggered by the physical strain of clearing snow or ice from the windshield.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's registration or door jamb sticker to confirm if you own a 2021, 2022, or 2023 Hyundai Palisade.
  2. Be aware that this recall (Hyundai recall number 243) is an expansion of a previous recall (22V-627), so your vehicle may be affected even if it was serviced for a similar issue previously.
  3. Contact an authorized Hyundai dealer to schedule a free appointment to have the driver-side windshield wiper arm replaced.
  4. If you have questions, contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 and mention recall number 243.
  5. For additional information, you can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
