Daimler Vans USA, LLC: Sprinter Vans Recalled for Detaching Windows and Cargo Rails

Summary

Daimler Vans USA is recalling approximately 131 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Freightliner Sprinter vehicles from the 2021-2023 model years. A defect in the topcoat paint formula can cause windows and interior lashing rails (used for securing cargo) to be insufficiently bonded to the vehicle body. This issue was identified through manufacturing quality checks, and dealers will inspect the paint adhesion and perform necessary repairs free of charge.

Risk

If the bonding fails, a window could detach from the vehicle during a crash, or heavy objects secured to the interior rails could break free. Both scenarios significantly increase the risk of injury to vehicle occupants or bystanders.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's registration or VIN to see if you own a 2021-2023 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter or a 2021 Freightliner Sprinter.
  2. Contact an authorized Daimler Vans or Mercedes-Benz dealer to schedule a free inspection of your vehicle's paint adhesion and bonding.
  3. If your vehicle is found to have extensive damage from this defect, discuss the possibility of a vehicle repurchase with the dealer as offered by the manufacturer.
  4. If you have questions, contact Daimler Vans USA (DVUSA) customer service at 1-877-762-8267 and reference recall number VS3LACKHA.
  5. For additional information, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
