Summary

Carra Imports is recalling approximately 55,500 custom made-to-order cellular, roller, soft horizontal, and Roman style solar shades. These shades were sold in various custom sizes and colors through major online and phone retailers like Blinds.com, Home Depot, Wayfair, and others between July 2010 and February 2015. The shades were recalled because they lack essential safety features like tension devices or have exposed inner cords, which can lead to serious injury. Consumers should immediately stop using these shades and contact Carra Imports for a free repair kit.

Risk

Children can become entangled and strangled in the free-standing loops of continuous pull cords or bead chains if they are not secured to a wall. For Roman shades, a child's neck can become trapped between the fabric and the exposed inner cord on the backside, or they can wrap a pulled-out cord around their neck.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify your window shades by checking your purchase records from Blinds.com, Blinds Century, Blinds Wholesale, HomeCraft, Home Depot, JustBlinds.com, Nobrainer Blinds, Office Depot, Rugs Direct BFC, Steve's Blinds, Wayfair, or Window World Blinds.
  2. Check if your cellular shades were purchased between August 2014 and February 2015, roller shades between September 2010 and September 2013, soft horizontal shades between July 2010 and March 2012, or Roman shades between September 2010 and July 2013.
  3. Inspect the shades for safety devices: if your cellular, roller, or soft horizontal shades have a continuous loop cord that is not fixed to the wall with a tension device, they are included in this recall.
  4. Immediately stop using the recalled window shades to prevent access by children.
  5. Contact Carra Imports at 800-845-8637 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or online at www.carrablindsandshades.com to receive a free repair kit.
  6. For cellular, roller, and soft horizontal shades, follow the provided instructions to install the included hold-down tension device. For Roman shades, use the kit to remove pull cords and install metal rings for raising and lowering.
  7. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 for additional consumer safety questions.
