Summary

Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling approximately 61,450 vehicles, including certain 2020-2021 GLE350, GLE450, GLE580, GLS450, GLS580, and 2021 AMG and Maybach variants. The air conditioner drain hoses may have been installed incorrectly, allowing water to leak into the passenger footwells. This water intrusion can damage electrical components, leading to potential engine failure, disabled emergency calling features, or doors that fail to unlock. Authorized dealers will inspect and reinstall the drain hoses as necessary at no cost to owners.

Risk

Water leaking into the vehicle can cause electrical shorts and corrosion, which significantly increases the risk of a vehicle fire. Additionally, the defect could cause the engine to stall or enter a 'limp-home' mode while driving, increasing the risk of a crash, or disable the eCall system and door locks, which could hinder rescue efforts during an emergency.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking your model and year: this recall includes 2020-2021 GLE350, GLE450, GLS450, GLS580; 2021 AMG GLE53, AMG GLE63, Maybach GLS600, AMG GLS63; and 2020 GLE580 models.
  2. Contact an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer to schedule a free inspection and potential reinstallation of the air conditioner drain hoses.
  3. If you notice dampness in the passenger footwells or electrical malfunctions, contact your dealer immediately.
