Summary

Walmart is recalling approximately 73,400 Mainstays five-piece card table and chair sets because the chairs can collapse unexpectedly. This defect has caused 10 reported injuries, including one finger amputation, three fingertip amputations, sprained or fractured fingers, and a sore back. These black padded metal sets were sold at Walmart stores nationwide and online from May 2013 through November 2013. Consumers should immediately stop using the sets and return them to Walmart for a full refund.

Risk

The folding mechanism of the chairs can fail or collapse during use, creating a hazard where fingers can be caught and crushed or amputated. Additionally, a collapsing chair poses a fall hazard to the occupant.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify your product by checking the white label on the bottom of the chairs for 'Made by: Dongguan Shin Din Metal and Plastic Products Co,' or 'Made by: Taiwan Shin Yeh Enterprises'.
  2. Confirm the set is a Mainstays five-piece card table set consisting of one black padded metal folding table and four matching chairs.
  3. Stop using the recalled card table and chairs immediately and move them to an area where they cannot be used.
  4. Return the entire five-piece set to any Walmart store for a full refund.
  5. Contact Walmart at (800) 925-6278 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. CT Saturday, and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. CT Sunday, or visit www.walmart.com and click on Product Recalls for more information.
  6. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 for additional questions regarding this recall.
