2025-2026 Volkswagen Taos Recalled for Fuel Tank Leak After Crash

Summary

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. is recalling approximately 38,710 of its 2025-2026 Taos vehicles because the fuel tank may leak following a crash. In the event of a rear-end collision, a fuel pressure sensor can become dislodged or completely separate from the fuel tank, which fails to meet federal safety standards for fuel system integrity. Dealers will install a wiring harness extension for the fuel pressure sensor at no cost to owners to prevent this separation.

Risk

If the fuel pressure sensor dislodges during a crash, fuel can leak out of the tank, especially in the event of a rollover, which significantly increases the risk of a fire.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to see if it is affected. Beginning April 29, 2026, you can search for your specific VIN on the NHTSA.gov website.
  2. Contact an authorized Volkswagen dealer to schedule a free appointment to have a fuel pressure sensor wiring harness extension installed.
  3. If you have further questions, contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 and reference recall number 97TH.
  4. Call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov/recalls for more information.
