Summary

VIZIO has recalled approximately 245,000 E-series 39-inch and 42-inch Full-Array LED flat panel televisions. The television's stand assembly can fail, causing the TV to tip over unexpectedly. VIZIO has received 51 reports of these televisions tipping over, though no injuries have been reported. These black televisions were sold at major retailers like Best Buy, Target, and Walmart, and online through Amazon and Costco between December 2013 and June 2014. Consumers should immediately detach the stand and contact VIZIO for a free replacement stand assembly.

Risk

The stand used to support the television can crack or fail, causing the heavy display to fall forward without warning. This poses a significant risk of impact injuries to consumers, particularly children, who may be nearby when the unit tips.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify your television by checking the label on the back for Model Numbers E390-B0, E390i-B0, or E420i-B0.
  2. Verify your serial number against the recalled ranges, which include sequences starting with LAE, LAQ, LAT, or LAU (for example, E390-B0 serials LAE 8PSBP 4600517 to LAE 8PSBP 4701297).
  3. If you are using the stand assembly, immediately detach the stand and place the television in a safe, flat location (such as on the floor) to prevent it from tipping over.
  4. If your television is wall-mounted, you do not need to take immediate action, but you should still request a replacement stand in case you decide to use it in the future.
  5. Contact VIZIO toll-free at 855-472-7450 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT on weekends, to request a free replacement stand assembly.
  6. Visit www.vizio.com and click on 'Safety Notice' for additional information and to register for the repair kit.
  7. Contact the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 if you have additional questions regarding this safety recall.
