Visonic Amber Personal Emergency Response Kits Recalled Due to Failure to Signal Emergency Assistance

Summary

Visonic is recalling approximately 1,700 Amber SelectX Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) kits because the base station can fail to detect emergency signals from a user's pendant after a system reset or reboot. The recalled kits include a wireless pendant, a power supply, a backup battery, and a white rectangular base station with gray emergency buttons. These units were sold at Visonic distributors and alarm installation firms nationwide from April 2012 through April 2013. Consumers should contact their installer immediately to receive a free replacement base station.

Risk

If the system fails to operate after a reset, the base station will not detect the emergency signal from the user's pendant, preventing a call for help during an emergency. No incidents or injuries have been reported to date.

What You Should Do

  1. Check the external label on the back of your white Amber SelectX base station for catalog number 0-100729 and serial numbers ranging from 1612002383 through 501206949.
  2. Verify the manufacture date using the first four digits of the serial number (WWYY format); affected units were manufactured between the 16th week of 2012 (April) and the 50th week of 2012 (December).
  3. Note that base stations with catalog number 0-100729 and serial numbers 2308600299 through 3013079617 were also involved in a previous recall and should be checked.
  4. Immediately contact your professional alarm installer or a Visonic alarm installation professional to schedule a free replacement of the base station with a new, functional unit.
  5. For more information, contact Visonic at 800-223-0020 from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or visit www.visonic.com and click on 'North America' then 'Product News' under the Solutions and Products tab.
  6. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 if you have additional questions.
