Viking 5 Series Gas Ranges Recalled for Gas Leak and Fire Hazard

Summary

Viking Range has recalled about 3,050 of its 5 Series Freestanding Gas Ranges (models VGR and VGIC) because rigid gas tubing can detach at the burner joints. This defect can lead to gas leaks and fires when the bake, broil, or griddle burners are used. These ranges were sold nationwide from August 2021 through December 2021 in stainless steel, white, and 14 other colors. Consumers can continue to use the top stovetop burners but must stop using the oven and griddle functions immediately and contact the manufacturer for a free repair.

Risk

The rigid gas tubing inside the range can separate at the joints connected to the bake, broil, and griddle burners. If this happens while the burners are in use, gas can leak and potentially ignite, creating a fire hazard. While no injuries or incidents have been reported, the risk of a gas explosion or fire is significant.
