Kia America, Inc.: Telluride Vehicles Recalled for Roll Away Risk from Disengaged Driveshaft

Summary

Kia America, Inc. is recalling approximately 427,407 of its 2020-2024 Telluride vehicles because the intermediate shaft and right front driveshaft may not fully engage. This defect can cause the vehicle to roll away unexpectedly while parked, which could lead to a crash or serious injury. Owners are urged to use their emergency parking brake every time they exit the vehicle until a permanent repair is made by a Kia dealer.

Risk

If the driveshafts are not properly engaged, the vehicle may move even when the transmission is set to 'Park.' This creates a roll away hazard that increases the risk of a collision or injury to bystanders and passengers.

What You Should Do

  1. Confirm if your vehicle is affected by checking your vehicle's make and model: this recall applies to 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 Kia Telluride SUVs.
  2. Manually engage the emergency parking brake every time you exit the vehicle to prevent it from rolling away until the recall repair is completed.
  3. Contact an authorized Kia dealer to schedule a free repair. Dealers will update the electronic parking brake software and replace any damaged intermediate shafts as needed.
  4. If you have questions, contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542 and mention recall number SC303.
  5. Contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information.
