2014-2020 Acura MDX Recalled for Vehicle Lighting Failure

Summary

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling approximately 152,800 Acura MDX vehicles from the 2014-2020 model years. Moisture can enter the tailgate lid light assembly and wiring harness, causing both interior and exterior lights—including taillights, position lights, and license plate lights—to fail. To fix this issue, dealers will inspect the wiring, install a fuse harness, replace the lid light, and repair the body dust sealer as necessary at no cost to owners.

Risk

If the vehicle's exterior lights fail to illuminate, the vehicle becomes less visible to other drivers and the driver's own visibility is reduced, which significantly increases the risk of a crash. No injuries or incidents have been reported in connection with this defect.

What You Should Do

  1. This recall involves 2014-2020 Acura MDX vehicles where moisture ingress in the tailgate can lead to the failure of taillights, license plate lights, and interior lighting.
  2. Identify if your vehicle is included in this recall. Owners who previously had their vehicles repaired under NHTSA recall number 19V-256 must still have this new remedy completed.
  3. Contact an authorized Acura dealer to schedule a free inspection and repair. The dealer will install a fuse harness, replace the lid light, and repair the body dust sealer as needed.
  4. If you have additional questions, contact Acura customer service at 1-800-382-2238 and reference recall number FLI.
  5. Call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov/recalls for further information.
