Summary

New Flyer of America is recalling approximately 746 transit buses across various models, including certain 2013-2022 XDE35, XDE40, XDE60, XE40, XN40, 2017-2022 XE60, and 2014-2022 XT40 and XT60 models. These buses are equipped with a double tilt steering column where the connection to the upper steering shaft may become loose. If the shaft disconnects, the driver will lose control of the steering, which significantly increases the risk of a crash. New Flyer is notifying owners and providing a free replacement of the steering column and shaft components.

Risk

A loose connection between the steering column and the upper steering shaft can result in a total loss of steering control. This defect directly compromises the driver's ability to navigate the vehicle, which can lead to a crash without warning.
