Chrysler (FCA US, LLC): Ram ProMaster Vans Recalled for Transmission Rollaway Risk

Summary

Chrysler is recalling approximately 165,503 of its 2019-2021 Ram ProMaster vehicles equipped with a 62TE transmission. These vehicles contain internal debris that can prevent the transmission from fully shifting into 'Park' even when the driver moves the shifter to that position. Chrysler dealers will update the vehicle software and inspect or replace transmission components as needed to ensure the parking mechanism works correctly.

Risk

If the transmission's park pawl does not fully engage due to internal debris, the vehicle may roll away unexpectedly while the driver believes it is secured in park. This can lead to a crash or injury to bystanders or the driver as they exit the vehicle.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking your VIN to see if you own a 2019-2021 Ram ProMaster van equipped with a 62TE transmission.
  2. Contact an authorized Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) dealer to schedule a free appointment for a powertrain control module software update and a transmission inspection.
  3. Ensure you use your parking brake every time you park the vehicle until the recall repair has been successfully completed by a dealer.
  4. If you have further questions, contact Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) customer service at 1-800-853-1403 and reference recall number 44A.
  5. For additional information, you can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
