Blue Bird Body Company: 2021-2024 Vision School Buses Recalled for Warning Light and Stop Arm Failure

Summary

Blue Bird Body Company is recalling approximately 5,197 Vision school buses from the 2021-2024 model years. A software issue in the vehicle's multiplex module can cause the external warning lights to turn off and the safety stop arm to retract without any warning while the bus is in use. To resolve this issue, dealers will provide a free firmware update to affected vehicles.

Risk

If the warning lights deactivate and the stop arm retracts unexpectedly while children are boarding or exiting the bus, other motorists may not know to stop, significantly increasing the risk of a collision or injury to pedestrians.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking if it is a Blue Bird Vision school bus manufactured between the model years 2021 and 2024.
  2. Contact an authorized Blue Bird dealer to schedule a free update for the multiplex module firmware.
  3. If you have questions regarding this recall, contact Blue Bird customer service at 1-478-822-2242 and reference recall number R24CX (SB).
  4. For additional information, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
