Summary

Navistar, Inc. is recalling approximately 4,199 International HV, RH, MV, and HX commercial vehicles from the 2018-2022 model years. A software error in the Body Control Module (BCM) can allow these vehicles to overcome the parking brake while the power-take-off (PTO) system is operating. Dealers will provide a free software update to correct this issue, and owner notification letters are expected to be sent by April 24, 2023.

Risk

The software defect allows the vehicle to move unexpectedly even when the parking brake is engaged during power-take-off operations, which significantly increases the risk of a crash or injury to bystanders and operators.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is one of the affected models: 2018-2021 International HV, 2019-2021 International RH, 2019-2022 International MV, or 2022 International HX.
  2. Contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825 to confirm if your specific VIN is included in recall number 23503.
  3. Schedule an appointment with an authorized Navistar dealer to receive a free update to the Body Control Module (BCM) software.
  4. If you have further questions, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
