Summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 870,701 of its 2021-2023 F-150 pickup trucks equipped with single exhaust systems. In these vehicles, the rear axle housing can come into contact with the wiring harness, causing damage that may trigger the electric parking brake to engage unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion. Ford has initiated this recall to address the potential for sudden deceleration which could lead to a collision. Dealers will inspect the wiring and install protective materials or replace the harness as needed at no cost to owners.

Risk

If the electric parking brake activates unexpectedly while you are driving, the vehicle may slow down or stop suddenly without warning, significantly increasing the risk of a rear-end collision or loss of vehicle control.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking your model year (2021-2023) and ensuring it is an F-150 equipped with a single exhaust system.
  2. Contact any Ford dealer to schedule a free service appointment; technicians will install a protective tie strap and tape wrap, and will replace the wiring harness if any damage is found.
  3. You may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 23S35 for more information.
  4. For additional questions or to check your VIN, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
