U.S. Boiler, New Yorker, and Other Residential Boilers Recalled for CO Hazard

Summary

U.S. Boiler Company is recalling about 2,500 gas-fired residential boilers sold under the U.S. Boiler, New Yorker, Advantage, FORCE, and Archer brands. These boilers, when installed at altitudes above 5,400 feet, have a switch that can fail to shut down the burners if the vent system becomes blocked. No incidents or injuries have been reported to date. The recalled units were sold nationwide through independent heating and plumbing contractors and wholesale distributors between February 2009 and November 2023 for between $2,000 and $4,000. Consumers are being offered a free repair that includes a replacement main burner gas orifice and a blocked vent switch if needed.

Risk

If the boiler is installed at a high altitude and the vent system becomes blocked, the blocked vent switch (BVS) may fail to turn off the burners. This can cause the boiler to release excessive amounts of carbon monoxide into the home, posing a severe risk of carbon monoxide poisoning or death.

What You Should Do

  1. This recall involves residential gas-fired hot water boilers sold under the U.S. Boiler, New Yorker Boiler, Advantage, FORCE, and Archer brand names.
  2. Identify if your boiler is affected by checking the brand name and model number on the rating plate. For U.S. Boiler ES2 and Series 3 models, the plate is located on the top panel; for X-2, CG-E, CG-F, AG, FORCE, and Archer models, it is located on the inside vestibule behind the removable door on the right side. See the Affected Products section below for the full list of affected codes.
  3. If you own a recalled boiler, immediately contact U.S. Boiler to schedule a free repair which includes a replacement main burner gas orifice and a replacement blocked vent switch if required.
  4. Ensure you have working carbon monoxide (CO) alarms installed on each floor of your home and outside of all sleeping areas while you await your repair.
  5. Contact U.S. Boiler toll-free at 888-432-8887 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, email info@usboiler.net, or visit usboiler.net, archerboiler.com, or newyorkerboiler.com and click on 'Safety Recall Information: High Altitude Gas Boilers' for more information.
  6. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 for additional safety information.

Your Remedy Options

๐Ÿ”งFree Repair

Consumers with the recalled boilers should immediately contact U.S. Boiler to receive a free repair that includes a free replacement main burner gas orifice and a free replacement blocked vent switch if needed.
