General Motors, LLC: Turn Signals May Not Be Visible/FMVSS 108

Summary

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling 1,962 of its 2024 GMC Sierra EV vehicles because the front turn signals and parking lights may have nearly identical brightness levels. This defect makes it difficult for other drivers to tell when the front turn signals are activated, which violates federal safety standards for lighting and reflective equipment. To fix this issue, GM dealers will replace the headlamp multipurpose LED driver module at no cost to owners.

Risk

If the front turn signals are not clearly visible to other road users, the driver's intentions to turn or change lanes may not be understood, significantly increasing the risk of a collision.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking if it is a 2024 GMC Sierra EV.
  2. Contact a local GMC dealer to schedule a free replacement of the headlamp multipurpose LED driver (MLD) module.
  3. If you have further questions, contact GMC customer service at 888-988-7267 and reference GM recall number N242474560.
  4. Call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information.
