Summary

Volvo Trucks North America is recalling 135 model year 2019-2023 VNRE battery electric trucks because a component in the cabin heater may fail. This failure can cause the coolant heater to overheat, which significantly increases the risk of a vehicle fire. Volvo dealers will install replacement relays and update the software for the Hybrid Powertrain Control Unit and Instrument Cluster to resolve the issue for free.

Risk

A relay in the cabin heater system can fail, leading the coolant heater to overheat. This overheating creates a direct fire hazard within the truck cabin.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is a model year 2019-2023 Volvo VNRE battery electric truck.
  2. Contact any authorized Volvo Trucks dealer to schedule a free appointment to have the cabin heater relay replaced and the vehicle software updated.
  3. If you have already received an owner notification letter (mailed around March 16, 2023), refer to it for specific instructions regarding recall number RVXX2301.
  4. For further information or to confirm your vehicle's status, contact Volvo Trucks customer service at 1-800-528-6586.
  5. You may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
