Tristar Products Recalls Magnetic Trivets Due to Magnet Ingestion Hazard (Recall Alert)

Summary

About 350,000 Tristar Products magnetic trivets are being recalled because the internal magnets can detach from the silicone casing. These trivets were sold in copper, burgundy, blue, and black colors both individually and as part of Copper Chef 10-Piece Cerami-Tech Nonstick Cookware Sets. One child has already suffered serious intestinal injuries requiring surgery after swallowing detached magnets. These products were sold through QVC between October 2017 and October 2018; consumers should immediately stop using them and contact Tristar Products for free replacements.

Risk

Small magnets can detach from the trivets and be swallowed by children. If two or more magnets are ingested, they can attract each other through intestinal walls, causing obstructions, perforations, sepsis, and potentially fatal internal injuries.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify your trivet: These are silicone, flower-shaped trivets with four encased magnets, sold in copper, burgundy, blue, or black colors either individually or with Copper Chef 10-piece cookware sets.
  2. Immediately stop using the recalled trivets and place them in a secure location out of the reach of children.
  3. Contact Tristar Products at 800-718-5136 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday to receive instructions on obtaining free replacement trivets.
  4. Visit www.Tristarproducts.com and click on 'Trivet Recall Information' for additional details and to verify if your product is included in the recall.
  5. For further information or questions, call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772.
