Nova Bus (US) Inc.: LFS and LFS Artic Transit Buses Recalled for Potential Driveshaft Separation

Summary

Nova Bus (US) Inc. is recalling 414 transit buses, including certain 2019-2023 LFS models and 2019-2020 LFS Artic models. The transmission yoke on these vehicles may separate, which can cause the driveshaft to disconnect and lead to a sudden loss of drive power. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, tighten the output yoke bolts free of charge to resolve the issue.

Risk

If the driveshaft separates while the bus is in motion, the vehicle will lose all power to the wheels, significantly increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, a disabled bus in an uncontrolled traffic area may require an emergency passenger evacuation, which poses a risk of injury to those on board.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your transit bus is affected by checking the model and year: this recall includes 2019-2023 LFS vehicles and 2019-2020 LFS Artic vehicles.
  2. If you are an owner of a Phase 2 vehicle (2019-2020 LFS Artic), be aware that a second notice will be mailed once the final remedy is available, which is expected in January 2025.
  3. Contact Nova Bus customer service at 1-800-350-6682 to schedule a free inspection and repair of the output yoke bolts. Reference recall number CR5442.
  4. For additional information, you may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
