General Motors, LLC: Cadillac, GMC, and Chevrolet Vehicles Recalled for Transmission Fault

Summary

General Motors is recalling approximately 8,744 vehicles, including certain 2022-2023 Cadillac XT5, 2023 Cadillac XT6, GMC Acadia, Chevrolet Blazer, and Chevrolet Traverse models. These vehicles were manufactured with an incorrect sun gear in the transmission, which can cause the driver-side half-shaft to disengage. Dealers will replace the sun gears in affected vehicles free of charge to resolve this mechanical defect.

Risk

If the half-shaft disengages from the transmission, the vehicle may experience a sudden loss of drive power while moving or a rollaway when the vehicle is shifted into Park. Both situations significantly increase the risk of a crash or injury to bystanders.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking your specific make and model year: 2023 Cadillac XT6, 2023 GMC Acadia, 2023 Chevrolet Blazer, 2023 Chevrolet Traverse, or 2022-2023 Cadillac XT5.
  2. Contact your local dealership to schedule a free repair; dealers will replace the transmission sun gears at no cost to you.
  3. If you own a Cadillac, you may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 for more information regarding this recall.
  4. If you own a Chevrolet, you may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 for more information.
  5. If you own a GMC, you may contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782 and reference recall number N222389310.
