Summary

Toyota is recalling 141,286 vehicles, including 2023-2026 Prius, 2023-2024 Prius Prime, and 2025-2026 Prius Plug-in Hybrid models. Water may enter the rear door switch and cause a short circuit, allowing an unlocked rear door to open unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion. Dealers will modify the door switch circuits free of charge. This recall expands and replaces a previous recall (24V274), and vehicles repaired under that previous recall must be serviced again with this new remedy.

Risk

If a rear door opens unexpectedly while the vehicle is moving, occupants may fall out or be at a higher risk of injury during a collision.

What You Should Do

  1. This recall involves 141,286 vehicles, including 2023-2026 Toyota Prius, 2023-2024 Toyota Prius Prime, and 2025-2026 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid models where a short circuit can cause rear doors to open unexpectedly.
  2. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking the model year and model name, or by searching for Toyota recall numbers 26TB03 and 26TA03.
  3. Contact any authorized Toyota dealer to schedule a free modification of the rear door switch circuits.
  4. Note that even if your vehicle was repaired under previous NHTSA recall number 24V274, you must return to the dealer to have this new remedy performed.
  5. For more information, contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.
