Summary

Hyundai is recalling approximately 584,784 vehicles including 2019-2023 Santa Fe, 2021-2023 Santa Fe HEV, 2022-2023 Santa Fe Plug-in HEV, and 2022-2023 Santa Cruz models. These vehicles may be equipped with a tow hitch harness that can experience water accumulation on its printed circuit board, leading to an electrical short. This recall expands upon a previous safety recall (22V-633) for similar fire risks. Dealers will provide a free remedy by installing a new fuse and wire extension kit to prevent the electrical short and potential fire.

Risk

Water buildup on the tow hitch harness circuit board can cause an electrical short, which can result in a fire while the vehicle is either parked or being driven. Because of this fire risk, owners are advised to park their vehicles outdoors and away from garages or other structures until the repair is completed.

What You Should Do

  1. Park this vehicle outdoors, away from structures — do NOT park in a garage due to fire risk until the recall repair is completed.
  2. Identify if your vehicle is affected: This recall involves 2019-2023 Santa Fe, 2021-2023 Santa Fe HEV, 2022-2023 Santa Fe Plug-in HEV, and 2022-2023 Santa Cruz vehicles equipped with a tow hitch harness installed as original equipment or purchased as an accessory.
  3. Contact a Hyundai dealership to schedule a free repair. Dealers will install a new fuse and a wire extension kit as necessary.
