Summary

Total Saddle Fit has recalled about 10,000 Shoulder Relief Saddle Cinches designed for Western saddles. These black and brown leather cinches, which measure between 24 and 36 inches, can come apart while in use, causing the saddle and rider to fall off the horse. There have been 19 reports of the cinches failing, including one report of a rider suffering fractured ribs. Consumers should stop using the affected cinches immediately and contact the company for a free replacement.

Risk

The leather cinch can break or separate, which allows the saddle to become unstable or fall off completely. This poses a serious risk of the rider falling from the horse, which has already caused one reported injury of fractured ribs.

What You Should Do

  1. The recalled products are Total Saddle Fit Shoulder Relief Cinches sold between August 2015 and August 2021 in black or brown leather, measuring 24 to 36 inches, featuring a round buckle and no center elastic.
  2. Check the area near the buckle for the 'Total Saddle Fit' name and verify if the cinch has a round buckle and lacks elastic in the center to determine if it is part of this recall.
  3. Immediately stop using the recalled Shoulder Relief Cinch and keep it out of reach of others to prevent accidental use.
  4. Contact Total Saddle Fit by emailing care@totalsaddlefit.com or by visiting www.totalsaddlefit.com and clicking on 'Safety Recall' at the bottom of the page to request a free replacement cinch and a pre-paid shipping label to return the original product.
  5. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 for additional questions regarding this recall.
