Summary

Toro is recalling approximately 3,700 Z Master Commercial 2000 Series ZRT riding mowers because a part called the idler pulley can rub against the fuel tank, causing it to wear down and pose a fire hazard. The recall affects 2012 and 2013 red and black models sold at Toro dealers nationwide between January 2012 and April 2013. Toro has received six reports of this issue occurring, though no injuries have been reported. Consumers should stop using these mowers and contact a dealer for a free repair.

Risk

The idler pulley can come into contact with the mower's fuel tank, creating friction that can wear through the tank wall. This allows fuel to leak or vapors to escape near moving parts, which creates a significant risk of fire.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately stop using any 2012 or 2013 Toro Z Master Commercial 2000 Series ZRT riding mower until it can be inspected.
  2. Check the metal identification plate located on the right-hand side at the front of the mower, directly below the operator's seat, to see if your model and serial number are affected.
  3. Verify if your mower is model 74141 with serial numbers 312000101 through 312000784 or 313000101 through 313000364.
  4. Verify if your mower is model 74143 with serial numbers 312000101 through 312000881 or 313000101 through 313000432.
  5. Verify if your mower is model 74145 with serial numbers 312000101 through 312001178 or 313000101 through 313000443.
  6. Contact an authorized Toro dealer to schedule a free repair or to confirm if the necessary repair was already performed on your unit. You can find a dealer or check recall information at www.toro.com or by calling Toro toll-free at (855) 493-0090 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday.
  7. For additional information, contact the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772.
