Summary

Toyota is recalling approximately 130,266 of its 2022-2023 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles that may be equipped with a genuine Toyota accessory tonneau cover. The attachment joints on these truck bed covers can come loose, which may cause the entire cover to detach from the vehicle while it is being driven. Dealers will install improved hardware, including new bolts, spacers, washers, nuts, and cotter pins, to secure the cover at no cost to owners.

Risk

If the tonneau cover detaches from the truck bed while the vehicle is in motion, it can become a significant road hazard for other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking if it is a 2022-2023 Toyota Tundra or Tundra Hybrid equipped with a genuine Toyota accessory tonneau cover.
  2. If your vehicle has this accessory, contact an authorized Toyota dealer to schedule a free repair.
  3. Bring your vehicle to the dealer, where they will install new hardware (bolts, spacers, washers, nuts, rubber washers, and cotter pins) to the existing bracket and tonneau cover; if the cover is too damaged to accept new hardware, it will be replaced entirely.
  4. If you have further questions, contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 and mention recall number 23TB03 or 23TA03.
  5. For additional information, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.

Your Remedy Options

You have 2 options:
