Summary

Mayborn USA is recalling approximately 3.1 million Tommee Tippee Sippee spill-proof cups because mold can develop on the internal one-piece white valve when it remains moist and is not cleaned frequently. There have been 3,066 reports of mold found in these valves, including 68 reports of children experiencing diarrhea, vomiting, and other illnesses. The recalled cups were sold at major retailers including Target, Walmart, and Amazon between December 2014 and May 2016 for $4 to $7. Consumers can receive a free replacement valve or cup by contacting the manufacturer.

Risk

Mold grows inside the removable, opaque white valve of the cup where it is difficult to see. Ingesting this mold can cause gastrointestinal symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea, and poses a heightened risk of infection for children with compromised immune systems.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your cup to see if it has a removable, one-piece white valve inside the lid. This recall only affects cups with this specific valve type.
  2. Identify your cup model from the following list of 7 to 10 oz. capacity cups: First Sips Transition cup, Trainer Sippee cup, Sippee cup (including 'Cute Quips' versions), Sportee bottle, and Insulated Swiggle/Sippee tumblers.
  3. Look for phrases on the front of the cup such as 'You Pour I'll Fling' or 'Drink Drop Repeat' to help identify affected products.
  4. Immediately stop using any recalled Sippee cups that contain the one-piece white valve.
  5. Contact Mayborn USA toll-free at 877-248-6922 (anytime Monday–Friday or 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET Saturday) or visit www.tommeetippee.us and click the recall button to receive a free replacement.
  6. For additional questions, contact the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772.
