Summary

Meritor, Inc. is recalling 1,601 Front Non-Drive Steer Axles, specifically the FL941 and MFS series models. The tie rod clamps on these axles may have been improperly heat-treated, causing them to crack and potentially allowing the tie rods to separate. Meritor will work with vehicle manufacturers to replace these clamps free of charge.

Risk

If the tie rod separates from the axle, it can cause a sudden loss of steering control, which significantly increases the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's steer axle identification to determine if it is a Meritor Front Non-Drive Steer Axle from the FL941 or MFS Series.
  2. If your vehicle is equipped with one of the affected steer axle series, contact Meritor customer service at 1-866-668-7221 regarding recall number C22AJ.
  3. Follow the instructions provided by Meritor or your vehicle manufacturer to schedule a free replacement of the tie rod clamps.
