Summary

The Lennox Intl is recalling over 1.8 million individual and multi-pack pig ear pet treats because they may be contaminated with Salmonella. The recall includes both bulk, unwrapped pig ears and those sold in individual shrink-wraps or 8-pack branded bags. These products were distributed to various retailers and distributors across 17 states between July and August 2019. Consumers should immediately stop using these treats and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Risk

Salmonella can affect both the pets eating the treats and the humans who handle them, especially if they do not thoroughly wash their hands after contact. In humans, this can cause symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramping; pets may show signs such as lethargy, diarrhea, fever, and vomiting.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your pet treat supply for individually shrink-wrapped pig ears with UPC codes 038538484108 or 742174935107 and an expiration date of November 2021.
  2. Check for branded 8-packs of pig ears with UPC codes 742174994166 or 742174995163 and an expiration date of November 2021.
  3. Identify bulk unwrapped pig ears which may be labeled as Item 99510 or Item 99530.
  4. Stop using the recalled treats immediately and secure them in a sealed container or bag so that pets and children cannot access them.
  5. Return the affected products to the retail store where they were purchased for a full refund.
  6. If you or your pet have handled or consumed these products and are showing symptoms of Salmonella infection, contact a healthcare provider or veterinarian immediately.
  7. For additional questions, contact the FDA consumer complaint coordinator or the manufacturer at 930 New Durham Rd, Edison, NJ 08817.
