Summary

Approximately 29,000 Coaire and Quietside brand tankless gas water heaters are being recalled because they can overheat, posing a fire hazard. There have been 40 reports of units overheating, including two fires causing property damage and four instances of burns appearing on the walls where the units were mounted. These white heaters were sold by independent dealers and online at Amazon.com between July 2008 and August 2014. Consumers should immediately stop using the heaters and contact Challenger Supply Holdings to arrange for a free repair.

Risk

The water heaters can overheat during operation, which can cause the unit to fail and potentially ignite nearby walls or structures, posing a serious fire risk to the home.

What You Should Do

  1. Check the front of your tankless gas water heater for the brand name 'Coaire' or 'Quietside' located on the bottom front of the unit.
  2. Verify the unit is affected by looking for the words 'S-Line Condensing' printed on the top front of the white metal casing.
  3. Confirm your heater matches the dimensions: 25-28 inches tall, 15-19 inches wide, and 8-14 inches thick.
  4. Immediately stop using the recalled water heater to prevent overheating.
