Summary

T.W. Enterprises, INC. is recalling various dog and cat treats, including Salmon Snackers, Shrimp Snackers, and several Healthy K9 brand products, because they may be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella can affect both the pets eating the treats and the humans who handle the contaminated pet products, especially if they do not wash their hands thoroughly after contact. These products were distributed nationwide in the United States and Canada through retail pet stores and distributors.

Risk

Salmonella bacteria can cause serious illness in pets and can also be transferred to humans who handle the treats, leading to symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and fever. If a pet consumes these contaminated treats, they may experience decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain; infected but otherwise healthy pets can also be carriers and infect other animals or humans.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your pet food supplies for Salmon Snackers 100% Salmon (1.8 oz), Shrimp Snackers 100% Shrimp (1.0 oz), or any Healthy K9 brand treats including Beef Jerky, Beef Heart, Original Beef Chew, Beef Liver, Veal Chew, and Beef Tripe.
  2. Identify Healthy K9 Original Beef Chews by size: small 4'', medium 6'', large 10.5'', xlarge 14'', mega 17'', jumbo 28''.
  3. Look for bulk cases or shipping cartons labeled 'HEALTHY K9 BEEF LIVER ONE POUND NET', 'Bully Chew' (hand-written on cardboard), or 'HEALTHY K9 BEEF JERKY ONE POUND NET'.
  4. Immediately stop feeding these products to your pets and handle them with gloves or wash your hands thoroughly after touching the packaging.
  5. Return the affected treats to the retail pet store where they were purchased for a full refund, or contact T.W. Enterprises, INC. at their Ferndale, Washington location for further instructions.
  6. For additional questions, contact the FDA consumer complaint coordinator or call the agency hotline at 1-888-463-6332.
