SureFit Recalls Riding Lawn Mower Blade Spindle Shafts Due to Impact Hazard (Recall Alert)

Summary

SureFit is recalling about 900 riding lawn mower blade spindle shafts and assemblies, which were sold as replacement parts for John Deere mowers. The spindle shaft can break during lawn mowing, causing broken blade pieces to be ejected from the mower as dangerous projectiles. These parts were sold at garden stores nationwide between January 2017 and September 2017. SureFit is offering a free replacement spindle shaft for all affected consumers and is contacting known purchasers directly.

Risk

The blade spindle shaft can fail and break while the mower is in use. This causes sharp metal blade fragments to become high-speed projectiles that can strike bystanders, causing impact injuries or damaging nearby property.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately stop using any riding lawn mowers equipped with SureFit replacement blade spindle shafts or assemblies.
  2. Check your mower maintenance records or the parts themselves for model numbers 504-00341 (Blade Spindle Assembly) or 504-00346 (Blade Spindle Shaft).
  3. Contact SureFit toll-free at 855-971-2299 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET on weekends to receive instructions for a free replacement shaft.
  4. Visit www.mtdproducts.com and click on 'Product Recall' at the bottom of the page for additional information and to verify if your purchase is part of this recall.
