Summary

Summer Infant is recalling about 86,000 Lil' Luxuries Whirlpool, Bubbling Spa & Shower infant bath tubs because the fabric sling can suddenly detach from the tub frame. There have been 91 reports of the sling detaching, including 11 instances where infants suffered bumps to their heads. These battery-operated tubs were sold at Toys R Us, Babies R Us, and other specialty stores between October 2012 and October 2013 for approximately $60. Consumers should immediately stop using the fabric sling and contact the manufacturer for a safe replacement.

Risk

The fabric sling can detach from the plastic tub frame without warning, causing an infant to fall into the tub water or hit their head on the frame, posing serious risks of impact injury and drowning.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your infant bath tub to see if it is a Summer Infant Lil' Luxuries Whirlpool, Bubbling Spa & Shower model with item numbers 18840, 18850, 18863, or 18873.
  2. Look for a four-digit date code on the fabric sling starting with 1210, 1211, 1212, 1301, 1302, 1303, 1304, 1305, 1306, 1307, or 1308.
  3. Inspect the headrest area of the fabric sling; if it does NOT have a white plastic attachment clip to secure it to the frame, it is part of this recall.
  4. Immediately stop using the fabric sling included with the recalled bath tub.
  5. Contact Summer Infant at 844-612-4254 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Thursday (9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET on Friday) or visit www.summerinfant.com and click on 'Safety Alerts & Recalls' to request a free replacement sling that includes the necessary white plastic attachment clip.
