Summary

Subaru of America, Inc. is recalling approximately 69,153 model year 2025 Forester hybrid and 2026 Crosstrek hybrid vehicles due to a fuel cap defect. An insufficient seal on the fuel filler cap can allow fuel to expand and spill out of the filler neck when the tank is near capacity and temperatures rise. Owners are advised to keep their fuel tanks no more than 50% full and park outdoors until a dealer replaces the fuel filler cap gasket free of charge.

Risk

If fuel spills or leaks from the filler neck in the presence of an ignition source, it significantly increases the risk of a vehicle fire. Because of this fire risk, owners should park their vehicles outdoors and away from structures until the repair is finished.

What You Should Do

  1. Park this vehicle outdoors, away from structures — do NOT park in a garage due to fire risk.
  2. Limit your fuel level to no more than 50% capacity until the recall repair has been performed to prevent fuel expansion leaks.
  3. Contact an authorized Subaru dealer to schedule a free replacement of the fuel filler cap gasket.
  4. You can verify if your specific vehicle is affected by entering your 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) at www.nhtsa.gov/recalls.
  5. If you have further questions, contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614 and reference recall number WRD-26.
  6. Call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for additional information.
