PACCAR Incorporated: 2023-2024 Peterbilt 579 Trucks Recalled for Rollaway Risk

Summary

PACCAR Incorporated is recalling approximately 25 of its 2023-2024 Peterbilt 579 trucks because of a defect in the tractor's parking system. The Intellipark Tractor Park Valve Module (PVM) can intermittently get stuck in the 'un-parked' position, preventing the vehicle from properly engaging the parking brakes even when the driver activates the switch. PACCAR dealers will replace the faulty module with a corrected part at no cost to owners.

Risk

If the parking valve module fails to move into the park position, the heavy truck can roll away unexpectedly while the driver believes it is secured. This unintended movement significantly increases the risk of a crash and potential injury to the operator or bystanders.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle registration or records to confirm if you own a 2023 or 2024 Peterbilt 579 truck.
  2. Verify if your vehicle is included in this specific recall by contacting PACCAR's customer service at 1-940-591-4220 and referencing recall number 23PBC.
  3. Schedule an appointment with an authorized PACCAR/Peterbilt dealer to have the Intellipark Tractor Park Valve Module (PVM) replaced with a corrected part free of charge.
  4. Exercise extreme caution when parking the vehicle until the repair is performed; ensure the vehicle is on level ground and use wheel chocks if necessary to prevent movement.
  5. For additional information or questions, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
