Summary

Approximately 96,000 Jeep Liberty branded three-wheeled strollers are being recalled because the inner tube of the tires can rupture. This rupture can cause the plastic wheel rim to fracture and fly off as a projectile, posing a significant risk of bodily injury and property damage. There have been 39 reports of tube ruptures, resulting in 18 injuries to adults and children, including lacerations, abrasions, and contusions. Consumers should immediately stop using these strollers and contact Kolcraft for free replacement wheels.

Risk

The stroller tires may fail and explode during inflation or use, causing shards of the plastic wheel rim to be thrown at high speeds toward the user or bystanders. Most reported injuries occurred while caregivers were filling the tires with air, though children standing nearby have also been struck by debris.

What You Should Do

  1. Locate the white identification tag on the rear upper center of the seatback pad to check your model number and manufacture date.

  3. Check the wheel rims: If your stroller wheels have a gray triangle located on the rim at the valve stem, your wheels are NOT included in this recall and are safe to use.
  4. Stop using affected strollers immediately and contact Kolcraft at (800) 453-7673 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or online at www.Kolcraft.com to receive free replacement wheels.
  5. If you must inflate the tires before receiving replacements, use only a manual bicycle pump to a maximum of 30 p.s.i. and NEVER use gas station air pumps.
  6. For additional questions or to report an incident, contact the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772.
