Summary

Stile Products is recalling approximately 650 Tern brand adult folding bicycles because the bike's frame can crack at the hinge on the top tube. This recall affects six models—Link Uno, Link D7i, Link D8, Link P9, Link P7i, and Link P24h—sold in various color combinations including black/blue, black/green, and gray/orange. While no injuries have been reported in the U.S., there have been 11 reports of frames cracking globally, resulting in five reports of minor scrapes and bruises. Consumers should immediately stop using these bikes and contact an authorized dealer for a free replacement frame or a discounted upgrade to a different model.

Risk

The bicycle frame can crack at the hinge located on the top tube while in use. If the frame fails, it can cause the rider to lose control and fall, leading to serious physical injury.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately stop using the recalled Tern folding bicycles to avoid the risk of a fall.
  2. Check the middle of the top tube for the model name to see if it matches Link Uno, Link D7i, Link D8, Link P9, Link P7i, or Link P24h.
  3. Locate the 10-character alphanumeric serial number stamped on the bottom bracket shell of the bike and verify if it begins with AI1133 through AI1137 or AI1149 through AI1213.
  4. Find the alphanumeric service tag number on the front of the seat tube and enter it into the firm's website at www.ternbicycles.com to confirm if your specific unit is affected.
  5. Contact Stile Products toll-free at 888-570-8376 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, or visit an authorized Stile/Tern dealer to receive a free replacement frame and professional installation at no cost.
  6. Alternatively, ask your dealer about options to upgrade to one of three designated models at an additional cost.
  7. For additional questions or help identifying your bicycle, call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772.
