Sterno Home Recalls Path Light Kits With LED Power Supplies Due to Shock Hazard

Summary

Sterno Home is recalling about 77,000 Hampton Bay, Patriot Lighting, and Paradise brand path light kits sold with defective LED power supplies. The power supply plug blade can detach and remain stuck in an electrical outlet when the unit is unplugged, posing a serious risk of electric shock. These kits were sold at Home Depot and other hardware stores nationwide from March 2017 through May 2020 for between $50 and $100; consumers should contact the company for a free replacement power supply.

Risk

A defective plug blade on the LED power supply can break off and stay inside the AC wall outlet while the user is attempting to unplug the device. This leaves an exposed, energized metal component in the outlet that can cause an electric shock if touched.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your path light kit is affected by checking the rating label on the lights for the brand names 'Hampton Bay,' 'Patriot Lighting,' or 'Paradise' and confirming it uses a Sterno Home LED power supply.
  2. Immediately stop using the recalled path lights and do not attempt to unplug the power supply if it appears damaged or if the blades seem loose.
  3. Contact Sterno Home toll-free at 888-867-6095 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or email customerservice@sternohome.com to receive a free replacement LED power supply and installation instructions.
  4. You can also visit www.sternohome.com/recalls or www.sternohome.com and click on 'RECALL NOTICE' at the top left of the page for more information and to request your replacement.
  5. Contact the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 if you have additional questions regarding this recall.
