Summary

PACCAR Incorporated is recalling 782 model year 2025 Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks because a steering gear component may have been manufactured incorrectly. The steering gear sector shaft might have been improperly heat-treated, which can cause the gear teeth to crack or fracture during use. Dealers will inspect the steering gear serial numbers and replace the parts free of charge to ensure the vehicles remain safe to operate.

Risk

If the steering gear teeth fracture, the driver can experience a complete loss of steering control. This failure can happen without warning, significantly increasing the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if you own one of the following 2025 model year vehicles: Peterbilt 536, 548, 567, or 579; or Kenworth T280, T380, T480, T680, T880, or W990.
  2. Contact an authorized Kenworth or Peterbilt dealer to schedule a free inspection of your steering gear serial number.
  3. If the steering gear is found to be part of the affected production lot, the dealer will replace the steering gear assembly free of charge.
  4. For more information, Kenworth owners can call customer service at 1-425-828-5888 (mention recall 24KWF) and Peterbilt owners can call 1-940-591-4220 (mention recall 24PBF).
