Summary

Volvo Trucks North America is recalling 45 of its 2024-2025 VNL and VNR commercial vehicles because the steering gear sector shaft may have been manufactured incorrectly. The shaft was improperly heat-treated, which can lead to the gear teeth cracking or fracturing during use. If this occurs, the driver could lose steering control, potentially leading to a crash. Dealers will inspect the serial numbers on the steering gears and replace them if necessary at no cost to the owner.

Risk

An improperly heat-treated steering gear shaft is prone to fracturing. If the shaft fails while the vehicle is in motion, the driver will lose the ability to steer the truck, which significantly increases the risk of a serious accident.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is a 2024 or 2025 Volvo VNL or VNR model truck.
  2. Contact an authorized Volvo Trucks dealer to schedule a free inspection of your steering gear serial number to determine if it is affected by this recall.
  3. If the steering gear is identified as defective, the dealer will replace the entire steering gear assembly free of charge.
  4. For additional information, contact Volvo Trucks customer service at 1-800-528-6586 and reference recall number RVXX2401.
