Summary

Autocar, LLC is recalling 37 of its 2023 ACX (Xpeditor) and ACTT (Xspotter) vehicles because the steering gear may have been manufactured incorrectly. These assemblies were built with fewer recirculating balls than required, which can lead to a sudden loss of steering control. Autocar dealers will inspect the steering gears and replace them if necessary at no cost to owners.

Risk

A steering gear with missing recirculating balls can fail, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle's direction. This failure significantly increases the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if you own a 2023 Autocar ACX (Xpeditor) or 2023 Autocar ACTT (Xspotter) vehicle.
  2. Contact an authorized Autocar dealer to schedule a free inspection of the steering gear assembly.
  3. If the inspection confirms the steering gear is defective, the dealer will replace it free of charge.
  4. For more information, contact Autocar customer service at 1-888-218-3611 and reference recall numbers ACX-2401 or ACTT-2401.
  5. If you have additional questions, call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
