Summary

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling 89,372 vehicles, specifically the 2022-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2021-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. These vehicles may have an incorrectly assembled steering column intermediate shaft that can disconnect from the universal joint. This defect can lead to a complete loss of steering control, significantly increasing the risk of a crash. Owners will be contacted to have their steering assembly inspected and repaired for free at a dealership.

Risk

The intermediate shaft may detach from the steering assembly's universal joint, which would cause the driver to lose all ability to steer the vehicle while driving. This sudden loss of control creates a high risk of a collision.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle registration or VIN to confirm if you own a 2022-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee or a 2021-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L.
  2. Contact any authorized Jeep dealership to schedule a free inspection and repair of your steering column intermediate shaft and assembly parts.
  3. If you have questions, contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403 and mention recall number 58A.
  4. For additional information, you may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
