Summary

BMW of North America is recalling 145,102 vehicles, including various 2019-2025 340I, 740LI, 840I, X5, X6, and X7 models. The engine starter motor can overheat due to an electrical overload if a driver makes repeated attempts to start the vehicle. To address this safety risk, authorized BMW dealers will replace the engine starter motor in affected vehicles at no cost to owners.

Risk

If the starter motor fails and overheats, it can ignite nearby materials in the engine compartment, causing a fire. This increases the risk of injury to vehicle occupants and damage to the vehicle even when it is parked.
