Summary

Stanley Black & Decker is recalling about 46,200 DeWALT 2024 model year Battery 21-inch Push and Self-Propelled walk-behind mowers. If water enters the mower's handle support while the battery is installed, the machine can fail to shut off when the handle is released or start unexpectedly without a key. There have been 10 reports of mowers failing to stop and one report of a mower starting on its own, which caused a finger injury. Consumers should immediately stop using these mowers if they have been exposed to water and contact DeWALT for a free repair at an authorized service center.

Risk

The mower's engine can continue to run after the safety handle is released or start up without the safety key inserted, posing a severe risk of lacerations to the hands and fingers. This defect occurs when moisture affects the electrical components in the handle support.
