Summary

DeWALT, Stanley FATMAX, and Craftsman brand fiberglass sledgehammers, weighing between 2 and 12 pounds, are recalled because the hammer heads can loosen and detach unexpectedly during use. About 2.2 million units are affected by this recall. Stanley Black & Decker has received 192 reports of the hammer heads detaching, which includes two reports of injuries to consumers' faces and heads. These tools were sold at The Home Depot, ACE Hardware, and online at Amazon from November 2013 through November 2022. Consumers should stop using the tools and contact the firm for a full refund.

Risk

The sledgehammer head can detach from the handle while in use, posing a serious impact injury hazard to the user or bystanders. There have been nearly 200 reports of heads detaching, resulting in at least two injuries to the face and head.
