Specialized Vado and Como IGH E-Bikes Recalled for Fall Hazard

Summary

Specialized Bicycle Components is recalling about 32,400 Vado and Como IGH e-bikes because the bike's protective chain or belt guard does not fully cover the belt drive. Loose clothing can get caught in the moving drive system while the bike is in motion, which poses a fall hazard to the rider. These e-bikes were sold nationwide and online from March 2021 through November 2024. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled e-bikes and contact an authorized Specialized retailer for a free installation of a new, updated protective guard.

Risk

The belt drive on these bicycles is not adequately covered by the protective guard. If loose clothing becomes entangled in the moving belt, it can jam the drivetrain, causing the rider to lose control or fall. No injuries or incidents have been reported to date.

  2. Identify if your bike is affected by looking for the "Specialized" brand name on the frame and checking for specific model numbers printed on the black and white serial number label located on the underside of the bike's top tube.
