Summary

Specialized Bicycle Components is recalling about 2,500 battery packs used in 1st generation Turbo Levo FSR, Turbo Levo HT, and Turbo Kenevo FSR electric mountain bikes. Water can leak into the battery's control pad seal and cause a short circuit, creating a serious risk of fire and burn injuries. While no injuries have been reported yet, these mountain bikes were sold nationwide and online from November 2017 through May 2021 for between $3,400 and $10,000. Consumers should immediately stop using the bikes and contact Specialized for a free repair that involves resealing the control pad.

Risk

Water can penetrate the seal around the LED control pad on the lithium-ion battery pack, which can cause the battery to short circuit. A short-circuited battery can overheat or catch fire, posing a significant risk of burns or property damage.

What You Should Do

  1. Check the top tube of your bicycle for the names 'Turbo Levo', 'Turbo Levo HT', or 'Turbo Kenevo FSR' to see if you have an affected model.
  2. If you have one of these models, use a 6mm Allen key to remove the battery pack and check the label for Manufacture Part Numbers (P/N) B9JE2045F, B9JE2056F, B9JE2065F, B9JE2076F, or B9JE2098F and Made Dates containing K7, L7, A8, B8, C8, D8, E8, F8, G8, H8, I8, J8, K8, L8, A9, B9, or C9.
  3. Stop using the recalled electric mountain bike immediately and do not charge the battery pack or expose it to wet conditions.
  4. Contact an authorized Specialized retailer or Specialized Bicycle Components at 800-772-4423 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. MT Monday through Friday, or visit www.specialized.com/safety-notices to arrange for a free repair.
  5. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 if you have additional questions regarding this recall.
